The Women’s Institute is a National Organisation which celebrated its centenary in 2015.  The Datchworth branch, which was formed in 1927, celebrated by holding a coffee morning on the National Day with cake and many members dressed up in how the members would have looked 100 years ago!

It is a very friendly WI.  Our current membership is around 40 and we welcome new members.  Anyone in the village is welcome to come along as a visitor for at least 2 meetings before deciding to become a full member.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm in Datchworth Village Hall where we enjoy talks and demonstrations from our visiting speakers.

9th May – AGM – Following our meeting, we all enjoyed a celebratory piece of cake for our 90th Anniversary year followed by a glass of Prosecco or fruit juice

Subjects for our next meetings are  as follows:

11th July   – Livery of London – Brian Pickering
8th August – Garden Meeting to be held at the home of one of our members

Additional social events we hold are:
On the 1st Wednesday of each month we enjoy a short ramble in the local countryside followed by refreshments at the nearest tea room or Public House.  Due to the holiday season only a few members made the walk on 7th June from the Goat Public House, Codicote.

9.30 on Wed 5th July – meet at Woodman PH Chapmore End

On 11th March 16 members took a minibus to the Phoenix Theatre to see the musical The Girls and a very enjoyable time was had by all.

1st Monday of the month our  Knit & Natter group in the Church Hall 2.30 – 3.30. is becoming very popular   Next meeting   3rd July  2017  We are looking to extend this meeting to include various other crafts in future.
Following our donation to the Neo-natal unit at the Lister Hospital in December, we continued to knit for the unit and delivered  a donation of 54 blankets, 12 bonnets, and assorted   bootees, mitts  plus 4 teddies as seen below on 17th May 2017.
(Plus a few larger sizes for the baby unit)

Our next project is to knit Twiddle Cuffs and make Twiddle Blankets for dementia patients. So we are now using our creative skills to produce very original items using up our left over wool, ribbons, buttons and anything else we have to hand.

Just a few of us to start with but we hope to encourage more of our members to join us and find their creative abilities.
We will meet every 4th Wednesday of the month at 9.30 for 2 hours in the Small Committee Room (where the Post Office is held) in the Village Hall.
First 3 Meetings:    26th July.  23rd August, 23rd September.
