The Women’s Institute is a National Organisation which celebrated its centenary in 2015. The Datchworth branch was formed in 1927.It is a very friendly WI. Our current membership is around 50 and we welcome new members. Anyone in the village is welcome to come along as a visitor for at least 2 meetings before deciding to become a full member.
We may be known for making cakes and jam but in fact our members enjoy a very diverse set of skills as shown in the photo of our stall. Our Craft & Produce stall at the THRIFTFEST 52a Burnham Green Rd. on 6th July
Monthly Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30 pm in Datchworth Village Hall where we enjoy talks and demonstrations from our visiting speakers. Visitors are always welcome.

10th December – “Christmas Greetings” – Keith Baldwin.
Herts WI Thatched Cottages of Hertfordshire Calendar.
This year we entered a photo into the Herts WI Photographic Competition depicting thatched cottages of Hertfordshire to be used as the 2020 calendar. We were fortunate enough to have the lovely Hopkyns Hoo on Datchworth Green featured on the front cover. These calendars can be obtained from the Herts Federation of Women’s Institutes, 29 High Street, Wheathampstead AL4 8BB Tel. 01582 824010. or email email@example.com. The cost is £4.50 each.
Knit & Natter – This takes place on the 1st Monday of the month at 2.30 p.m in the Church Hall. This year we are again producing items for the Neo-natal Unit at Lister Hospital. We will also be working on item for our Christmas tree at the Christmas Tree Festival 7th & 8th December.

Monthly Ramble – we enjoy walks in the local countryside on the 1st Wednesday of each month followed by tea/coffee at a local pub or tea room. On Wednesday 2nd October we visited Knebworth Park where we encountered a very large herd of deer which caused us to divert our planned route as we did not want to upset them in the rutting season.
On 6th November our ramble on a lovely sunny day took us through the woods near Preston where we were able to appreciate the beautiful scenery, view of roe deer and lots of interesting fungi.
NEW – We have started a Book Club. This will meet on 2nd Thursday of each month 2.30 – 4 p.m. in the Church Hall from 10th October. Next meeting 14th November.
Coffee Mornings. Meet in the Church Hall 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 10.30 a.m. Next meetings 20th November & 18th December.
Monthly Lunch. 12.30 on the 4th Tuesday of each month
Next Lunch changed to 3rd December at Vanstones Garden Centre due to venue availability.
Art Group- which met on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 9.30 in the Committee Room in the Village Hall, will be amalgamated with the Knit and Natter group on 1st Monday of each month with effect from 2020 as it was uneconomical to run it with very few members.
