Elderberries

Elderberries 2014The Datchworth Elderberries are a social club for people aged around 60 and upwards (one or two current members are 90+).  We meet each Wednesday afternoon from 2.00-4.00 p.m. in the Village Hall.  The £3 charge for attendance includes refreshments of tea and cakes.

Apart from socialising, our time is often occupied with board games, but at other meetings there may be quizzes, an entertainer or speaker, sing-songs, raffles, competitions or the occasional film. Grants from local organisations enable expeditions, for which members normally pay a reduced charge or nothing at all.  Outings have included canal trips with a meal on board, a visit to the pantomime, pub lunches and garden centre visits.

Many members don’t drive.  Some are able to arrange their own transport or get a lift from a fellow member.  At the moment we are looking into ways of providing subsidised transport for people who, on account of disability or any other reason, would otherwise find it difficult to attend. Elderberries pay no joining fee or annual subscription, so please feel free to come on a taster visit or two.  New members are always welcome.
