VJ Day

To mark VJ Day 75, Hertfordshire Archives and Local Service will be warmly inviting members of the public to share any photos or memories on Herts Memories, as they recently did for VE Day 75 in May 2020.

On behalf of Cllr. Terry Douris, Chairman of the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant Board, I wanted to share with you some information about VJ Day 75.  The Armed Forces Covenant Board in Hertfordshire, promoted as Hertfordshire Heroes, aims to ensure the Armed Forces community in Hertfordshire is commemorated and honoured for the sacrifices they have made.

The 75th anniversary of Victory over Japan will be recognised on 15 August 2020, commemorating the end of the Second World War. You can find more information here.

And, on 15 August, they will be sharing recordings of the diary of George Saunders, who was serving with the 135th (East Anglian) (Hertfordshire Yeomanry) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, which describe his release and return from a PoW camp in Japan.

If you would like to know more about the Hertfordshire Armed Forces Covenant Board and the Armed Forces in Hertfordshire please visit the dedicated website at Hertfordshire Heroes.

Please follow @hertscc on Twitter and Facebook for updates.

Kind regards,

Ashley Lamprell on behalf of Cllr Terry Douris, Chairman of the Armed Forces Covenant Board
