The very first Datchworth Village Fête took place in the Rectory Garden in 1928 and since then is held annually on the second Saturday in June.

It’s a traditional village activity, organized and run by local people drawing the community together for a fun day, and raising money for village causes.

It includes games, events, entertainments and stalls.  From its inception to today, great effort has been made to keep the fête true to its original values as a non-commercial village day with home-spun entertainment and fun for all ages

The aim is partly to raise money, but more importantly to provide traditional family entertainment for the community.

The Fête Committee would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the amazing number of stallholders and helpers who every year give their time and enthusiasm to make the day such a success.  Without them the Fête wouldn’t happen.

In 2023, our takings on the day were £15,573.76 which was a fraction under our highest ever from last year.  The details by stall are below.

Costs include entertainments, materials, signs, foodstuffs and drinks, insurance, printing, waste services, licences and hire of equipment and trucks.

As well as the takings on the day we also receive donations and sponsorship and in 2023 the total we have been able to donate after paying all costs is an amazing £12,700 .

This money is distributed to local groups, both social and sports, a wonderful local charity, along with the traditional beneficiaries of  All Saints’ Church and Datchworth Village Hall.

How it’s organized

It’s organized by Datchworth Village Fête Committee, an ad-hoc group of local volunteers who, together with other helpers contribute about 1,000 man-hours to planning and running the Fête every year.

We’re always seeking the time, energy and enthusiasm of local people for this surprisingly rewarding activity.   Becoming involved, either on the Committee or as a helper is an excellent way of making new friends.  Without such contributions there would be no Fête.  If you’re interested, do please contact Mark Light by Email:

Datchworth Fête is a not-for-profit event, and the committee is neither a commercial enterprise nor a registered charity.  Its funds are held at Barclays Bank.
