Datchworth Virtual Open Gardens

Our planned biennial Open Gardens Event had to be cancelled this year, much to the disappointment of gardeners, villagers and visitors. Not to be thwarted by Covid 19, however, we decided that we could go ahead albeit in virtual form.

Over the last few weeks, our gardeners have taken to photography and put pen to paper to compile a set of 12 garden booklets, showing off their flowers and plants, potting sheds and greenhouses, small and large. This year, therefore, each garden can be viewed from the comfort of your own home and at the same time, raise funds for our village church and school and the British Red Cross via the JustGiving platform.

Datchworth Open Gardens started as part of the village’s millennium celebrations and has been held every two years since. Over 1000 visitors came in 2018, choosing a leisurely walk or courtesy bus ride around our lovely village, enjoying lunches, afternoon tea and live music as well as the delights of undiscovered gardens and old favourites including our 800 year old church. We raised over £10,000 for local charities and the British Red Cross.

We hope you enjoy visiting Datchworth Gardens this year and if able, make a small contribution to supporting our good causes by clicking here.

Thank you!

  3. Datchworth Virtual Gardens – a final push

    Friends!
The second target has been reached and surpassed so our final push is towards £2,000 plus.

A huge thank you to those who have been so generous and a reminder to anyone who has not yet viewed the 12 wonderful gardens to please do so and spread the word and link – http://www.datchworth.com – far and wide!

Everything raised will support our village church and school and the British Red Cross, which continues to support patients and carers at this very stressful time. As one of our donors said, Clever, innovative Datchworth Gardens beats the lockdown with this wonderful online exhibition!

Remember too that there are 4 stunning paintings by Celia Sanders that are for sale by auction: have a good look at them on the same website link and follow instructions to put a bid in!

  4. What a wonderful selection of gardens and what a hard-working bunch of gardeners you are in Datchworth! I loved the variety and diversity of the gardens ‘on show’ and I am so impressed by the booklets themselves and the wonderful presentations you have all made in these strange circumstances.
Well done everybody … and to Richard for coordinating a wonderful ‘event’.
